Sustainable Fashion
Just like Jody, my good friend Crystal and I had a task to reinvent clothing. We had three hours to complete this class and how do you think we went? Surprisingly well for our first eco garment. We used two shirts and a jacket to create a cute skirt and top. If this were put into a trend I think it would be a FAD because if you remember FADs are for the tall slim types. That being said because the top gives a little extra in the behind area therefore suiting a slim lady well. Take a look at our working process and the finished garment.

Theatre De Le Mode
I've learnt about the Theatre De Le Mode and got inspired to try my own mini model. The way fashion trends were spread around was on life size mannequins for everyone to see. There was no internet or magazines so this is how they did it.  This is how my mini mannequin turned out:

fashion blogs

Fashion blogs
As most of you know fashion is a multi-billion dollar industry, but what some of you may not know is that along with this comes fashion blogs and oh what a HUGE impact it has on influencing fashion trends.
The reason behind this is that blogs are quick and easy to upload and publish. For example as soon as a designer has finished presented their collection it can then be immediately uploaded into a blog and streamed across the internet within minutes. Or if Gossip Girl were more than just a TV series I’m sure she’d be streaming a live feed of the catwalk from start to finish on her blog for all her viewers to see, and since her viewers are alerted when a blog is uploaded or streaming I’m certain her viewers could see the new trend in seconds.
As you can see fashion blogs are great for promoting new fashion trends and if you don’t want to be left behind I suggest you start taking an interest in fashion blogs. Fashion is going forward and I don’t think it’s going back to waiting for magazines and newspapers as opposed to an instant look into new fashion trends.

Jody Pearl

There is a major impact on the environment where fashion is concerned. All the waste from clothing being thrown out to purchase new ones, toxic dyes, fabric that uses a lot of water to grow, paper usage for pattern making etc.

Jody Pearl is a designer that recycles and reuses clothing. Jody believes that clothing needs to meet two criteria’s, adornment and protection. Jody also says if you are to join her class you need to consider these three things:

1.     You CANNOT make a mistake

2.     You will NEVER look at another piece of clothing the same way again.

3.     Re-inventing is endless and can be EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE

Jody took these three tops and made this:

These are some of the clothing Jody and others have reinvented.

I think this trend has been in the cycle of fashion during the 80’s where people wore layers upon layers of clothing. When the clothes are reinvented they are a number of layers put into it. More and more people are beginning to search for sustainable solutions to the fashion economic problems and I believe more people are going to adopt this reinventing of clothing into their wardrobe in a few years. I personally love this idea of splice skirts and dresses; they give off such an amazing effect. If you need more information go to Jody’s site where I went, www.jodypearl.com

FAD, Trend and Classic fashion

A FAD is an intense but short-termed fashion craze.

A trend is the current style that is in fashion, this stays around longer then a FAD.

A classic style is formal, refined, restrained and elegant.

Information on The Fashion Translator says that FADs are designed for young slim women. A couple of examples of these FADs are:

Jumpsuits, these are great for slim ladies especially if you are tall and slim, if not they probably aren’t your best choice in clothing but hey whose going to stop you?

The TV series 90210 features many jumpsuits for a short time on none other than tall slim ladies.

Another trend on The Fashion Translator is Cargo Pants.
These are also great for those tall slim ladies. Although they are always in for the outdoorsy type they are not in for long on the catwalk.

The best 2012 fashion trends would have to be lace (which was everywhere according to http://www.fashionologie.com/Spring-2012-Trends-19102109?page=0%2C0%2C4), pleats, rounded shoulders, black and white, bra tops, zigzag, clear shoes, 20’s, track trousers and one shoulder.

10 fashion classics that every women should own thanks to “handbag” at http://www.handbag.com/fashion/features/top-10-fashion-classics-every-woman-should-own-98503.

1.     Chanel 2.55 handbag

2.     Burberry trench coat

3.     Lanvin cocktail dress by Alber Elbaz

4.     Yves Saint Laurent ‘Le Smoking’

5.     Missoni scarf

6.     Breton stripe top

7.     Christian Louboutin sexy heels

8.     D&G little black corset dress

9.     Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress

10.  Hermes Birkinbag

Jumpsuits were around in the days of the hippies and appeared as something like this. Modern jumpsuits are a lot less busy and give off a more elegant look as shown.

Short tummy showing tops have been around before when Madonna wore it in the 80’s. Once again it has been modernized and even sexier. They may as well be called bras but no the correct term is bra tops, so stylish, so sexy, and so modern.

The classic le smoking suits for women have been around for a while. They have also become sexier then before, as time goes on women are showing more and more skin along with it. Not only a suit but a dress suit aswell by designer Yves Saint Laurent

                                                                           1966

Both midriffs or bra tops and le smoking appeared on TV first. With Madonna being a huge fashion influence there’s no wonder this became a fashion trend from the TV to the streets. Also when women saw women dress formal and in power on TV series they were influenced into doing the same therefore this fashion was also trickled down from TV to the streets. Jumpsuits on the other hand where from the street to the catwalk therefore being a bubble up effect.

1Music Videos

2 TV

3 Movies

4 Movie Stars

5 Magazines

6 Advertising

7 Billboards

8 Internet

9 Fashion Innovators (Kate Moss, Sienna Miller etc.)

10 Clubs

11 Streets

12 Friends and family
I put these in this order because all I read about in the 80’s were how big MTV was for fashion influence with TV series and movies not far behind. Also now days people are keeping a watch on how celebrities dress, looking in magazines and the internet for the latest fashion. This is my own opinion on how fashion is influenced the most.
I think not long until coloured jeans are everywhere in pretty much every bright colour out there.
